A wee bit of Irish-Scottish Jig (2015)

for orchestra

An Orchestral piece heavily influenced by the Celtic culture. Edwin's travel to West Ireland and the Scottish Highlands, in addition to the influence of Celtic music, led him to write this piece.

It was this piece with which Edwin won the Really Terrible Orchestra's Emerging Composer competition in August 2016. The Edinburgh-based orchestra premiered the piece in April 2017.

Best Wishes (2015)

5 mins

for string orchestra

This was written for Edwin's old school orchestra at Oundle School, especially for the director of music who was leaving. Edwin wanted to honour him by dedicating a piece of music to him.

Premiered in April 2015 by Oundle Strings - coincidentally near Edwin's childhood home in Hong Kong, rather than Britain.

Concert d'un rêve lucide (2020)

for orchestra

This was written in May 2020, in the middle of a lockdown due to Covid, when he had a lucid dream of himself performing at a concert. The piece would feature melodies that were heard from his dreams.

It also formed part of an ongoing fundraising event for “Help Musicians” charity to help musicians in the UK struggling financially, to be premiered , primarily virtually.

It will turn into our memories (2007)

for orchestra

Edwin wrote “It will turn into Memories” early in his composing career. It is one of his more reflective pieces, written as he considered some of the changes in his life – he was leaving his home in Hong Kong to travel to the UK, as well as worrying about his exams and his future.

Overture to the Proms (2017)

for orchestra

2 flutes, 2 oboes, 2 clarinets in A, 2 bassoons, 2 horns in F (optionally doubled), 2 trumpets in Bb, 2 trombones, bass trombone, tuba, timpani, strings

Inspired by the Promenade concerts, “Overture to the Proms” was written to express feelings of national pride and identity in a way that is also universal and unifying. While it has a distinctly British influence, it is overall a joyous piece which makes everyone smile, regardless of their national identity.

Irish Reel (2014)

Kinvara (2014)

for violin and piano OR for orchestra

A trip to the Irish town of the same name to hear his piece “It will turn into Memories” premiered inspired this piece for violin. In the form of an Irish Reel, it captures perfectly Edwin’s love of the Irish spirit.

The Beauty of Life (2014)

Here’s a piece that completely captures Edwin’s love of music and life, and his enthusiasm to share his joy with others. Full of his typically infectious sounds and melodies, ‘The Beauty of Life’ uses a full orchestra sound to its maximum extent – Edwin loves writing melody parts for all the orchestra, so here you will hear solos from nearly every section of the orchestra.

The Honeymoon Fantasy (2013)

for orchestra

Edwin wrote this piece in 2013 while dreaming of his future family life. His fantasy came true around a year later when he finally got married.
